So many possiblities...

I have a new fascination: chalkboard paint. I have yet to actually use it, but the possibilities are intriguing. I first saw it a couple years ago in Home Depot just in passing and filed it away in the back of my mind. Most places sell it in the standard black and green, but some companies are starting to make it so that you can tint it. I once went into a boutique where all of the walls were painted a chocolate brown chalkboard, so fun! I found a recipe online for making your own custom colors, and I think I'm going to have to try it out:

Custom Color Chalkboard Paint
Start with flat-finish latex paint in any shade. For small areas, such as a door panel, mix 1 cup at a time.
1. Pour 1 cup of paint into a container. Add 2 tablespoons of unsanded tile grout. Mix with a paint stirrer, carefully breaking up clumps.
2. Apply paint with a roller or a sponge paintbrush to a primed or painted surface. Work in small sections, going over the same spot several times to ensure full, even coverage. Let dry.
3. Smooth area with 150-grit sandpaper, and wipe off dust.
4. To condition: Rub the side of a piece of chalk over entire surface. Wipe away residue with a barely damp sponge.

Now I just need something to do with it! When I make my perpetual calendar I will be using it as the background of the calendar... but that's not very exciting. I want to do something fun:

This one is from an Etsy shop:

I think I want to paint my pantry door now. What if I painted my kitchen walls? I mean... I won't. Probably.

  2. I love the whole idea of chalboard paint. Especially brown! I didn't know it came in colors other than black so this is cool! I love brown and cream together : )

Anyway, I saw it for the first time in a friends house. She had painted one entire wall of her kitchen and I thought it looked wonderful. She used the space really well, had a place for lists, a calendar, down near the bottom was a 'scribbling place for her kids'. She was really artsy so she had decorated it well, drawings and lists of spices/herbs and such. Painting a whole wall really isn't as crazy as it sounds : )
