My first birthday invitation

My son Matthew's first birthday is in exactly 6 days, and I am so excited! I get that he's too young to appreciate what a birthday is, too young to care about cake & presents, and too young to remember any of it... but who cares, it's his birthday! I've worked hard to make it this far and I want to celebrate! Normally in my family we just have a little get together and have cake with a couple presents... but with so much family around here (and also because I just wanted to) we are having a real birthday party. I love kid parties - so much cooler than adult parties. I am going with an airplane theme (by now that seems a given) and I'll be posting up party details after the fact, but since pretty much everyone has recieved their invitations I figured it's probably ok to post up pictures. I wanted to make it look like a boarding pass, and I made up several versions before I settled on the final design. This was my first one that I made, and had decided to go with.

I had already printed them and started making them when I realized that on the right where it looks like a seat number, I had accidentally put his actual birthday instead of the date of the party. I debated leaving it since I'd already made several... but I'm a perfectionist and I just couldn't. Since I was reprinting them anyway, I decided to play around and see if I could come up with another design. Here are some of the ones I came up with:

Which one would you have chosen? They are all fairly similar, and it was hard to decide... but I think I made the right decision! Here is the final result, I'm quite proud!

In the back is the envelope, I cut them out of an old Rand McNally my mom had lying around. It's hard to see in the photo, but where there are dotted lines in the computer pictures - the invitation is actually perforated. And on the back is the RSVP information. I'm really pleased with how they came out... which is why the "passenger" on this one is Matthew himself... I had to make one and save it in the baby book! I didn't put that much effort in for him to never see it. Anyway, now I'm off to figure out the rest of the birthday... I've been testing out icing recipes, and planning the cake. All the details after the party! Happy almost 1 Matthew!

  1. I loved these invitations! Typically I would throw an invitation away, but I like this one too much to toss it. They turned out great.

PS, what does Matthew want for his birthday? I asked him today but didn't get much of a list out of him.
