bean bags for matthew

Life's been crazy lately, but I've managed to get one project done that has been on my list.
My little Matthew has recently realized how fun it is to throw things! I'm not as much of a fan of that as he is. As my mom put it, "I only ever give him soft things to play with anymore". I thought some small bean bags would be just the thing, and my original idea was to use iron on transfers to put numbers on them and we could practice counting... but when I went to my fabric source (my mom), she had this fabric with letters on it. Perfect! I changed my plans and decided to spell out his name instead!

I went through and picked out a wide range of kid fabric scraps to use (so each one would be different) and my mom - ever helpful - cut out the squares for me. After that it was easy! I sewed them - wrong sides together, leaving an opening to pour the beans in

Then I turned them out the right way and filled them about halfway full

I had 2 kinds of beans in my pantry... I honestly couldn't tell you what kind they are, but I tried both and found that the white beans, being smaller,  made for a much nicer beanbag

Then I used a zigzag stitch around the outside to close it off and reinforce the edges

The backs all have different patterns, plus I threw in a few extra for fabrics that I just couldn't pass up!

Matthew has been having so much fun with them! My total cost on this project was $1 ... only because I decided to buy a little bucket for him to carry them around in.

He doesn't do much carrying though... mostly he likes to fill the
bucket, and then dump them on his face

He's one happy guy though!

I feel like I still have a hundred things I want to do though...why is it I can't seem to find the time lately? I've recently decided that our bedroom needs a makeover... it's a sad sight right now. That's the one room where we've never really made an effort! I've got some ideas though, so expect to see some of that soon!

  3. Another great use for those are when you have a poster or print that you need to hold open, you place those on the corners to keep it open with out bending the paper.

  4. Love it! Have you had to wash them yet? How did they hold up (w the beans)?
