I've set my sights on a new project: the master bedroom. I feel as though none of the rooms in my home are anywhere near finished... but at least I've done something to them. The exception is our bedroom. When I was younger my bedroom was my retreat... it was the one place in my house that was truly my own, and I could fully relax there. Now... well, now I find myself tripping over Buzz Lightyear in the middle of the night and having to navigate around baskets of unfolded laundry. My room is no longer my relaxing retreat! Plus it's cramped these days... when I was pregnant we changed our second bedroom from an office to a nursery... unfortunately that means our office was smushed into the corner of our bedroom! Sometimes I think I feel claustrophobic when I'm in there. So.... TIME FOR A CHANGE! I find myself with an unfortunate lack of money right now (hence the lag in any projects happening), so my budget on this is roughly in the range of zero dollars. Apparently I'm going to have to get very creative if I want any of this to happen!
The first thing I want to tackle is our bed. Our bed is actually quite comfortable but we got it over 5 years ago when money was tight, so we went the Ikea route (actually the bed was a wedding gift and we purchased the rest over time). This picture is not our bedroom... but it very nearly could be. We own all the furniture in this picture... and that bed is the one I'll be attempting to make over. The headboard (or as we refer to it: the park bench) is going to go, and I'm going to make a new headboard to replace it.
I'm thinking in terms of an upholstered headboard
I'm not entirely sure what color I want or if I want it tufted, but these are a few of my inspiration pictures.

check out the wall behind the bed in this picture, I'm also considering painting the wall behind our bed in a similar style
I really like this striped headboard... I'm considering painting a pattern on the wall behind our bed, in which case I wouldn't do stripes... but after I saw this picture I can't help but rethink my plans...
I have no idea how I'm going to do any of this with little to no money, but I'll figure something out. I'll keep you posted on my progress! For my own sanity, I hope I find a way to start on our bedroom soon
Happy Monday everyone!
I really like this idea!!
ReplyDeleteHi Melanie...they are all so cute. But my favorite is the one with the teal headboard...it's cute and sexy:)
ReplyDeleteOkay when you start doing this let me know because I need to make a headboard for Taylor's room. I'm doing a Marine Corps theme and already have camouflage bedding, I was thinking a footlocker looking one. I'm just not sure where to begin. I also want to use your idea to draw/paint dog tags on his wall but really big and have one say his name. Headboard first though. I wish we lived closer!!
ReplyDeleteGreat pictures you are going to have to show me where you get those good pictures....I love those curtains in the chartreuse colored room
